Located in Wijers, Belgium’s largest lake district, the design firm lens ° ass architect has created an extraordinary cycling path surrounded by a pond. This pond is part of a nature conservation initiative led by burolandschap. The bike path is situated in Bokrijk, between loop connection points 91 and 243. Since opening in 2016, it has attracted thousands of visitors and was recognized by Time magazine as one of the 100 best attractions worldwide in 2018.

Within Limburg province’s extensive bike lane network, several routes and bridges developed by visitlimburg.be encourage tourists to explore the region’s natural beauty. Among these is the underwater bike path designed by lens ° ass architect, which offers a unique experience of “riding through water.” This innovative design successfully balances ecological preservation with tourism.

As part of the conservation efforts, the flora and fauna of the lake area have been restored. The former green barrier has been replaced with new lakes, allowing visitors to explore the water via wooden bridges. These landscape transformations offer unique perspectives, seamlessly connecting open-air museums with lake environments.

Overall, the thoughtful design by lens ° ass architect and the burolandschap team offers nature lovers a remarkable opportunity to experience the historic landscape of the Wijers Lake District.
