Exporting Excel Spreadsheets from Revit Mechanical and Electrical: A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Export Excel Spreadsheets from Revit Mechanical and Electrical

Detailed tables in Revit can be cumbersome when summarizing multiple categories or filtering family types. Therefore, many users prefer exporting these tables to Excel for easier data manipulation. Although Revit does not support direct export to XLSX or XLS formats, you can achieve this through a few simple steps.

1. Export the Detailed Table:

First, open the detailed table you want to export and set it as the active view.

Next, navigate to File > Export > Reports > Detailed List.

Choose the TXT format to export the detailed table initially.

Use the default settings to ensure the data is tab-delimited.

2. Import into an Excel Spreadsheet:

Open a new Excel workbook, then go to Data > Get External Data > From Text (or similar, depending on your Excel version).

In the file type dropdown, select All Files, then locate and import the TXT file you just exported.

Use the default delimiter settings (tab) and proceed by clicking Finish.

Once imported, you can format the data, apply filters, and perform calculations as needed.
