This project features a photographer’s residence and studio nestled in the serene mountains of Madrid, surrounded by lush vegetation and natural beauty.
Our design approach was guided by two key considerations:
1. The photography studio serves as a professional workspace where clients spend extended periods.
2. The connection between the residence and the surrounding natural environment.
The local landscape and the distinctive slate found here played a crucial role in shaping the design’s spatial arrangement, volume, and significance.
We began by separating the residential and studio areas with reinforced concrete walls in the basement, constructed to address the slope’s height difference.
The basement is clad in the same stone slabs as the house, integrating it seamlessly into the site. To control the surrounding views from within, both buildings are elevated and clad with beehive stones, harmonizing effortlessly with the mountainous environment.
The ground floor includes three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and dining area, and a spacious living room offering peaceful views of the mountains.
The studio occupies the first floor, connected visually and spatially to the ground floor, featuring large windows that frame the surrounding landscape.
The house’s structure is composed of load-bearing brick walls, metal columns, two-way concrete slabs, and sloping roofs with concealed drainage channels, defining the home’s architectural boundaries.
This synthesis of volumes allows the residence to adapt naturally to the steep terrain, facilitating a harmonious dialogue between the scenery, sunlight, and immediate surroundings, blending with the stone formations of Torremocha del Jarama.
This is a simple building, free of flashy technology and extravagant budgets, yet it does not compromise on avant-garde aesthetic appeal.
