How to Customize Element Materials in Revit for a Better Look

How to Modify the Appearance of Element Materials in Revit

When drawing walls and columns using default templates in Revit, or when working with pre-existing walls and columns, you might find that their surface appearance doesn’t meet your expectations. So, how can you adjust their appearance to achieve the desired look?

1. To modify the appearance of a wall, first select the wall and click Edit Type. Then, in the Type Parameters dialog, click Structural Edit.

2. In the Edit Assembly dialog, click on the material of the structural layer. This will open the Material Browser dialog, where you can change the graphic color and other appearance settings.

3. After entering the Material Browser dialog as described above, click on Resource Browser to explore the appearance library. Here, you can select the desired appearance to apply.

Following these steps, you can also modify the appearance of other elements such as columns, slabs, and beams.
