How to Combine Multiple Terrains in Revit

Merging Multiple Terrains in Revit

Begin by creating two separate terrains in Revit: Terrain 1 (see Figure 1) and Terrain 2 (see Figure 2), as illustrated below.

1. Open the project containing Terrain 1. In the upper-left corner, go to the file menu and select Export, then choose the CAD format option. Pick one of the three available CAD export options and proceed to export the file, as shown in the image.

2. Once Terrain 1 is exported, open the Terrain 2 project. Import the Terrain 1 CAD file you just exported into this project, following the steps depicted in the figure.

3. When importing Terrain 1, make sure not to check the option for exporting only the current view or using the 3D view; this is crucial for a proper import, as indicated in the illustration.

4. After the import is complete, click on Edit Terrain 2 Surface. Then, select the Import Instance that corresponds to the imported terrain. Click on the imported terrain file and press OK to merge both terrains into a single surface, as demonstrated in the figure.
