Revit Quick Modeling: Rapid Column Creation from Linked CAD Layers

Drawing Production Columns
You can quickly generate columns by extracting layer elements from linked CAD files.Revit Quick Modeling | CAD Drawing Column Generation, which can quickly generate columns by reading layer elements from linked CAD files

First, select “Level 1” under the floor plan in the “Views” section of the “Project Browser.” Then, navigate to the “Baoye Rapid Construction” tab and click the “Link Drawing” icon within the “Building Structure” panel.

In the pop-up window, choose the CAD file you want to import and link. Once the file is linked, select and click the “Drawing Column” icon in the same “Building Structure” area of the “Baoye Rapid Construction” tab.Revit Quick Modeling | CAD Drawing Column Generation, which can quickly generate columns by reading layer elements from linked CAD files

Next, select the model object within the drawing area, as shown below.Revit Quick Modeling | CAD Drawing Column Generation, which can quickly generate columns by reading layer elements from linked CAD files

The “isBIM Quick Model – Drawing Column” dialog will appear. Here, select the layer where you want the column to be created. You need to specify the baseline, annotation, and leader layers associated with the column.Revit Quick Modeling | CAD Drawing Column Generation, which can quickly generate columns by reading layer elements from linked CAD files

Click “Next” to view the recognized columns and their matching annotation types. Specify the bottom and top elevations for the columns, then click the “Create” button to start generating the column models.

Once the columns are created, a success notification will appear, as shown below.Revit Quick Modeling | CAD Drawing Column Generation, which can quickly generate columns by reading layer elements from linked CAD files

Notes:

  • The plugin currently recognizes only rectangles, circles, regular hexagons, and regular octagons to create corresponding column models.
  • To ensure a high recognition success rate, make sure the baseline is placed on a separate layer and not embedded within CAD blocks. This prevents the plugin from missing baseline data.
  • The column size in the drawing determines the actual size of the created columns. If you prefer to define column sizes using annotations, please refer to the “Annotated Column” function documentation.
