How to Delete Built-in Text Types in Revit Templates
Recently, I have been working on creating my own Revit template file. This task feels very meaningful to me, but as the saying goes, the beginning is always the hardest part. Soon after starting, I ran into a problem.
Here’s the issue:
The default building template comes with Arial fonts in various sizes, but in my daily work, I mostly use fonts like YT Imitation Song or bold styles. So, I wanted to create some commonly used text types for myself.
As shown in the image below, I copied and created new text types such as YT Imitation Song Dynasty 3.5mm, YT Imitation Song 5.0mm, and YT Black 3.5mm. However, I have strict standards for my template and don’t want to see a long list of unused Arial text types cluttering it. I wanted to delete all of those.
But then the question arose: How do you delete the text types that come preloaded in these templates?
At first, I tried the usual approach by searching the Project Browser under Families. I only found one category, Annotation Text, which was not what I was looking for.
After extensive searching and exploring, I finally discovered the solution.
To be honest, the option is hidden deep enough that most people, including myself, don’t know about it. So I’m sharing this in hopes of saving you time.
Back to the main topic: where exactly can you find it? Keep reading.
Go to the Manage tab and select Delete Unused.
In the Delete Unused Items dialog box, the software defaults to selecting all categories. First, click Discard All to clear all selections. Then scroll down until you find the Text category. Check the text types you want to delete, and click OK.
When I discovered this, I had the same feeling as many—like a sudden moment of enlightenment!
Haha, that’s the tip I wanted to share!
