Adidas’ newly completed office building and reception park in Herzogenaurach, Germany, stands as a distinctive local landmark. It showcases a unique sports world that embodies the Adidas brand for all visitors. Beyond functionality, the reception building features a striking sculptural design that delivers a powerful visual impact, expressing the brand’s passion and love for sports.
The architects designed nearly 2,000 modern, sustainable workspaces within a 52,000 square meter area, aiming to create organic and flexible office environments.

The design balances transparency, outdoor landscaping, and modern office concepts, inspired by the idea of work socialization and Adidas’ commitment to future sustainability. The architects elevated the abstract form of the building above an artificial green landscape, creating a striking presence.
The office complex features three floors, with entrances cleverly nestled between artificial hills. Some entrances are open to the public and lead directly into a spacious, well-lit atrium designed to accommodate a variety of activities.

One of the most striking and innovative features is the suspended staircase in the atrium. This gently ascending staircase connects employees to the third-floor office spaces and offers unique vantage points of the bright atrium and adjacent park landscape.
Additionally, the building includes a main corridor designed as an internal “main street,” facilitating horizontal and vertical connectivity and creating a vibrant “aerial marketplace” atmosphere.

Each floor’s main corridor connects to six distinct kitchen modules. These kitchens are differentiated by unique materials, colors, and furniture styles, giving each one its own identity within the building. The diverse kitchen designs influence the atmosphere of the surrounding office areas accordingly.
The third floor features a variety of workspaces arranged into three spatial categories: formal meeting spaces, casual communication zones, and areas dedicated to entertainment and relaxation. Lighting systems with varying sizes and colors have been installed to ensure ample and comfortable indoor illumination.

The facade integrates a custom shading control system designed to maximize sunlight in winter while minimizing heat gain during summer. This system uses aluminum frames with opaque perforated panels, combining aesthetics with energy efficiency.
With extensive use of recyclable materials and adherence to the latest energy-saving standards, the building has applied for LEED Gold certification, reflecting its commitment to sustainable design.

Structurally, the building posed significant engineering challenges. Ultimately, reinforced concrete was chosen as the primary structural material, supported by inclined steel structures and concrete foundations. This innovative approach earned Adidas the 2019 Engineering Award of the Year from the German Steel Construction Industry Association.
