What has happened in the past and what exists now both point to a constant truth. The sound of footsteps lingers in memory, echoing down a corridor we’ve never walked, leading to a door we’ve never opened.
— T.S. Eliot

Design explores the relationship between people and space, but the temporal nature of space is equally significant. When interpersonal connections grow distant and security feels elusive, memories from the past emerge as powerful triggers for emotional resonance.

For professionals working in urban environments, the campus represents an important milestone in life. Numerous iterations of BIM design have created a series of ‘beauties’—stories about the future, hope, regrets, and missed opportunities—that have all transformed into memories of youth and humanistic emotions.

In youth, accompanied by a close friend, outside the window… just close your eyes, and that image will return with the unique clarity of youth, as vivid as waking from a dream.

The Xidi Hongshan Joint Office Project, located in Beijing’s Xicheng District and designed by Shenzhen Qianxun for soft furnishings, draws inspiration from the youthful and dream-filled campus era. It targets the sensory experiences of the 80s and 90s generations, inviting users to become “time travelers” through spatial materials, light and shadow, and sensory interpretations.

Emotions are the heartbeat of every individual. Designing feelings within the “time traveler” scenario allows every step along the corridor to evoke memories of youth and the warmth of the present.

Past, present, and future each bring unique mindsets, all searching for a life filled with longing like the stars. The “time traveler” becomes a shining light guiding the way on this long journey.

The duplex design, like a theatrical performance, begins and ends repeatedly. Interestingly, bystanders remain unaware of what is about to unfold—this is a ‘private matter’ shared between object and subject.

The spirit of childhood remains untouched by hardship, yet the wings of the mind begin to grow. This design gently nurtures an upward vitality. Walking along the long corridor, like a tunnel through time, feels like time turning back and awakening at the moment of stepping into campus life.

Light streaming through the window reflects on the abundant books, revealing not only memories but also emotional imprints that come vividly into view.

Within the geometric intersections of wood, metal, and marble, every texture and hue invites more than passive observation. This space reflects life’s past and journeys to faraway places, where the scenery shapes diverse souls, bearing both past and future to meet us in the present.
