Shenzhen is undergoing a pivotal phase of urban transformation and development. To establish itself as a national model for low-carbon ecological cities, the city is developing a green, ecological new urban district in Guangming New Area. This initiative aims to create a livable, business-friendly, and idyllic city that combines urban convenience with a pleasant rural environment.
China Merchants Guangming Science and Technology Park is situated on Plot A within Shenzhen’s Guangming Science and Technology Park. The site hosts an investment exhibition center, with a parking lot to the south, the A3 factory building to the east, Derun Electronics Company to the west, and urban green spaces and roads to the north. The park benefits from excellent landscape views on both its northern and southern sides.
As a flagship project in the Phoenix area, the design of China Merchants Guangming Science and Technology Park is guided by an ecological philosophy. Moving away from traditional, rigid industrial R&D spaces, it integrates cultural activities with natural environments. The result is a series of green, comfortable, modern high-rise factories that align with Guangming New Area’s vision of a green ecological urban district.
The design carefully considers the spatial relationship between the building and the city. It incorporates the riverside landscape to the north and the park scenery to the east within the building’s layout. The building steps back with terraces that extend the existing landscape axis, creating a seamless integration between architecture and nature.
The architectural form resembles mushrooms sprouting after rain, harmoniously blending with the surrounding landscape. Lush greenery climbs the terraces, and each setback reveals vibrant vegetation. This design allows R&D and office staff to step outside into a natural, green workspace filled with plants, flowers, and birdsong.
The traditional single-purpose factory has been transformed into a multi-layered, green ecological R&D complex. Centered on the ecological concept, the design incorporates abundant vertical greenery, enriching the spatial experience and functionality.
Shenzhen Merchants Guangming Science and Technology Park sets a new standard for industrial parks by creating functional and effective spaces that foster urban development through harmonious coexistence of people and nature. This project exemplifies how industry and ecology can thrive together, with buildings designed to preserve the environment and promote synergy between people, production, and nature. It represents the future model of industrial space.
