Foster + Partners has completed Apple’s latest retail store in Miami, drawing inspiration from the city’s iconic Art Deco architecture. The design was developed in close collaboration with Apple’s design team, led by Jonathan Ive. The “Apple Aventura” store gathers visitors under gracefully undulating arched roofs that pay homage to Miami’s maritime and architectural heritage. The store is situated in the new wing of the Aventura Shopping Center, adjacent to the “Public Slide Tower” by artist Karsten H.

“We appreciate the integrity and purity of concrete,” explained Stefan Behling, head of the studio. The design language and materials of Foster + Partners’ Aventura shopping center are inspired by Miami’s tradition of white decorative art and its climate, reflecting both the location and local culture. This is the first Apple store to use white precast concrete as its primary structural system, continuing the exploration of materiality seen in Apple Park.

“This store feels very ‘Miami’ to me — with its distinctive trees, natural light, and innovative roof,” added Jonathan Ive, who recently announced his departure from Apple later this year. The design embodies Apple’s signature blend of outdoor lifestyle with a sense of freedom and creativity. Serving as an outdoor “genius grove” and a welcoming spot for visitors to relax, the space features a lushly planted garden furnished with teak tables and chairs.

The glass curtain wall blurs the boundary between interior and exterior, allowing trees and seating to extend seamlessly into the double-height hall. The arched roof features 80-foot-long (24.3-meter) prefabricated concrete beams spanning 60 feet (18.2 meters) between slender steel columns encased in concrete shells. Between these beams, a continuous 20-foot-wide (6-meter) concrete arch creates a barrel-vaulted ceiling lined with white fabric for acoustic insulation.
