How to Quickly Remove Unused Steel Bars from CAD Drawings

When importing CAD drawings into Revit, a common challenge is quickly deleting unused steel bars.

Often, CAD drawings contain many steel bars, and removing the unnecessary ones efficiently is essential.

To start, annotate a steel bar in the CAD drawing, then double-click it to enter editing mode. Next, select and copy the symbol of the first-level steel bar, as shown in Figure 1.

Press the shortcut key F to open the Find dialog. Paste the copied symbol into the “Search for content” field. Although the symbol may not visibly appear in the box, the “Search” button will turn from gray to blue, indicating the symbol has been successfully pasted. Set the “Search Scope” to the entire graphic and check the option to list all results, as illustrated in Figure 2.

Click “Search” and then confirm. On the right, select the search result set, and press the shortcut key E to delete all first-level steel bars at once, as shown in Figure 3.

Alternatively, you can select a steel bar, right-click to choose a similar object, and then press E to delete all similar steel bars simultaneously, as demonstrated in Figure 4.
