The Vanke Future Hill project is situated in Panyu District, Guangzhou, near Guangzhou South Station. The design process began four months before the opening of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway. This five-story office building is one of the new constructions in the park. Our team was responsible for designing the interior spaces of four floors: the basement, first floor, fourth floor, and fifth floor.

At the onset of the project, the client requested a “new type of office space with a sense of the future.” But what exactly does a “sense of the future” mean? During discussions with the client, we reached a shared understanding. The “sense of the future” is not about flashy or high-tech gadgets; instead, it focuses on spatial design—creating tactile spatial experiences and an atmosphere of ecology and freedom.

Our spatial design aims to blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor environments, allowing interior and exterior views to seamlessly merge. The basement serves as a negotiation and exhibition area, complemented by an outdoor sunken courtyard. Large glass panels bring the courtyard’s scenery indoors. The staircase leading to the first-floor lobby is designed as a grand staircase facing the courtyard, serving as a place to pause, rest, and enjoy the shifting light and shadows over the courtyard landscape.
Inspired by Lingnan architectural courtyards, the fourth and fifth floors feature a rooftop skylight atrium that connects the two levels. Sunlight filters down, illuminating the trees in the fourth-floor atrium and spilling into the space below, creating the illusion of an outdoor courtyard inside the building.

For materials, we primarily chose wood and terrazzo to emphasize natural textures. The five-story building features white plaster walls, brown wooden floors, and window frames that harmonize perfectly with the greenery in the atrium, creating a cozy and comfortable office environment.

The basement and first floors are mainly dedicated to communication and exhibition spaces, designed with a strong public focus. Anodized aluminum panels are extensively used on the walls, featuring a blurred and polished surface. This material evokes a futuristic feel similar to mirror-polished stainless steel but maintains a warm and inviting quality. Paired with wooden elements, the space gains warmth and a sense of freedom.

For indoor installations, we collaborated with professional galleries to create custom designs that align with our concept. Ecology and nature remain central themes, and the material textures harmonize with the interior space, resulting in a cohesive and pure design.
