BIM Software Tips: How to Place Regional Reinforcement in Revit
Start by using the standard drawing tools to define the boundaries of the steel mesh coverage area.
Go to the Structure tab and find the Reinforcement panel, then select Structural Steel Mesh Area.
Choose the floor slabs, walls, or foundation slabs where you want to apply the steel mesh.
Next, click Modify | Create Reinforcement Mesh Boundary and use the Draw panel to trace a closed boundary line around the area.
Note: The parallel line symbol indicates the edge of the main reinforcement direction within the steel mesh area. In sketch mode, you can adjust this main reinforcement direction. This direction is crucial because it controls the rotation of the steel mesh. The primary steel bars align parallel to this main direction. Each steel mesh area is enclosed by a rectangular dashed line with edge controls for adjustment.
Select these edge controls to define the start and end points of the steel mesh layout.
By manipulating these controls, you can set the alignment and overlap values for the steel mesh. To ensure an accurate layout, select at least two adjacent controls. The steel mesh will conform to the boundary you drew and will be cut where there are openings in the host element.
To customize the graphics of the steel mesh, navigate to the View tab, then open the Graphics panel and select Visibility Graphics. From there, adjust settings under Structural Steel Mesh Area or Structural Steel Mesh.
Within the Steel Mesh Area Attributes dialog, you can specify the overlap position in the section view.
Click Modify | Create Steel Mesh Boundary and use the Mode panel to enter complete editing mode.
To automatically place symbols and markers on the completed sketch, go to the Steel Mesh Area Attributes options board and look under Identify Data. Enable Mark New Components in the View and select the appropriate view in the parameters.
Note for Revit Users: Steel mesh symbols and markings must be placed separately for each steel mesh sheet.
