How to Prevent Temporary Dimensions from Becoming Permanent in Revit

How to Make Temporary Dimensions in Revit Permanent

After creating your drawings in Revit, do you find it tedious to manually relabel each dimension? Is there a faster, simpler method? The answer is yes! Today, I’ll share a quick tip to help you streamline this process.

When modeling, you often use various commands that rely heavily on lines. As you draw, you’ll notice temporary blue dimension annotations appearing next to the line segments, showing their lengths. You can click these to adjust the length directly. Have you ever noticed a small icon beneath these temporary dimensions? Hovering your mouse over this icon reveals a tooltip that says, “Make the temporary dimension annotation permanent.”

By clicking this icon, the temporary dimension instantly becomes a permanent annotation. This simple step saves you considerable time by automatically labeling your dimensions without the need to do it manually for each one.
