Project Location
The Wyndham Grand Plaza Yuzhou, formerly known as Yuzhou International Hotel, is situated in the heart of Wuyuan Bay, Huli District, Xiamen City. Positioned between Gaoqi International Airport and the Xiang’an Subsea Tunnel, the hotel is bordered by Zhongzhai Road to the west and Wuyuan Bridge on Huandao East Road to the north. Its prime location offers easy access, just a 5-minute drive from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and 10 minutes from the Xiamen International Convention and Exhibition Center.

▲ Conveniently located with excellent transport connections in all directions.
Building Overview
The hotel comprises two connected high-rise sea-view towers alongside 19 standalone luxury suites. It offers 400 sea-view guest rooms and 120 sea-view luxury suites. With its waterfront position adjacent to the bay, the property benefits from exceptional natural scenery. Guests can enjoy views of sailboats drifting during the day and the soft glow of Egret Island’s lights at night.

Upon completion, the hotel rises prominently at the entrance of Wuyuan Bay, its curved architecture evoking the fluidity of flowing water. This design encapsulates the unique coastal character of Xiamen. The horizontal white aluminum panels, layered and twisted, create a dynamic wave-like effect, projecting grandeur and elegance. From afar, the building’s silhouette resembles a majestic ship navigating through the wind and waves, serving as a key urban landmark along the main axis of Xiamen’s Huandao East Road. This symbolizes the city’s open and welcoming spirit toward the vast ocean.

Design Highlights
Originally designed and partially constructed by other firms in early 2005, the project was halted for several years due to unforeseen circumstances. In 2008, our company took over, redesigning the scheme and construction plans. The project spanned a decade from design to completion, culminating in a refreshed and modernized appearance.
Our design addressed several major challenges:
- Positioning: We redefined the hotel as a high-standard star-rated property that met all stakeholders’ expectations while preserving the originally approved exterior layout.
- Cost Efficiency: By maximizing the use of the existing pile foundation, already completed, we saved significantly on investment.
- Image: We incorporated a 30-meter span aerial corridor at the top, designed scientifically for structural integrity, which creates a dynamic linear form.
- Flow and Functionality: Beneath the land setback line lies a 65,000 square meter underground commercial space with multiple intertwined functional flow lines. We overcame considerable challenges related to fire safety, operations, and maintenance through careful design.
