How to Split Walls Easily in Revit

Splitting Walls in Revit

By using wall splitting techniques, you can create a variety of wall types with different materials and structures.

(1) Go to the Architecture tab, select Wall, then choose Wall – Architecture. Click on Attributes, and then select Edit Type to open the Type Properties dialog box. In the dialog, click Structure, then click Edit at the bottom left corner to open the Edit Assembly window.

In the preview section, under Profile, click the number in the first row to select it. Next, click the Insert button twice to add two new layers. Modify the first and second layers’ Function to Surface Layer 1 (4). For the second layer, set the Thickness to 40mm and change the Material to Masonry – Ordinary Bricks. Then, click Split Region. Zoom in on the slope diagram on the left and select the 40mm thick wall layer you just created.

(2) Click Modify, select the boundary you just created, and change its value to 3000mm. Then, modify the first layer’s Material to Marble. Click the number in the first row again, choose Specify Layer, and click on the split wall to apply the marble material to the specified layer.

(3) Click OK to confirm and complete the wall structure editing. You will have a wall with 3 meters of marble at the bottom and ordinary brick masonry above.
