How to Calculate Column Plate Dimensions in Revit

How to Deduct Floor Slabs from Columns in Revit

By default, Revit allows columns and slabs to overlap when you draw them. However, in real-world construction, slabs need to be cut out or deducted from columns. In this guide, we’ll show you how to adjust this setting in Revit.

First, open Revit and create your floor slabs and columns, as illustrated below.

Next, go to the Modify tab. In the Geometric Shapes panel, open the dropdown and select the Connect command. Then choose Switch Connection Order. After that, select the column and slab individually, as shown in the image below.

Once you complete this operation, the slabs will be properly deducted from the columns. The result appears as illustrated in the following figure.
