Creating Stair Step Profiles in Revit: A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Create Stair-Step Profiles in Revit

In architectural drawings, sectional views are essential for illustrating a building’s internal structure. However, when a single sectional plane cannot capture all necessary internal details, multiple parallel sectional planes are used. This technique is known as a stepped section or turning section, as shown in the image below.

So, how do you create such a stepped profile in Revit? First, start by drawing a cross-section in the plan view.

Next, select the section line and click on Split Line Segment in the Modify | View panel. Your cursor will change to a knife icon. Click on the desired position along the cutting line to split it into two segments. Then, click and drag one of the segments to your preferred cutting position.

After repositioning the segment roughly, your section line should look similar to the example below.

If this initial display doesn’t fully meet your needs, you can make further adjustments. Click on the break line (the gap between line segments) as shown in the following image.

The cutting line will convert into a polyline, with blue dots marking each endpoint. You can fine-tune the length of each line segment by dragging these blue dots.

After making these adjustments, the stepped profile will be successfully created, as illustrated below.
