Revit allows you to modify the geometric shape of beam endpoints in structural connections. For detailed guidance, please refer to the attached document.
To specify the alignment reference for a beam endpoint’s geometric shape, consider the geometric profiles of beams, walls, and columns that can be linked together. The reference lines—such as the centerline or the reference plane defined within the family—serve as alignment guides for beams and columns.
Start by selecting beams or supports, or use the selection boxes to pick multiple elements at once. Then, navigate to the “Modify | Structural Framework” tab and choose the “Modify Endpoint” panel (also known as Change Reference).
If the Change Reference tool is unavailable, ensure the following conditions are met:
- The detail level of the current view must not be set to coarse.
- All selected elements should be connected to a common element.
- The elements must be connected directly to each other.
- The graphic elements must be linear and composed of straight lines.
- The graphic elements should not be made of concrete.
Next, select the reference line or geometric edge of the shape to align with. Use the Tab key to cycle through and select specific geometric lines associated with the elements.
For example, you can align a beam attached to a column by snapping it to the column’s web surface, replacing the existing connection point. Similarly, you can choose reference lines and extensions for other beams, columns, and walls.
Alignment is also possible along non-perpendicular lines, as illustrated in the figure below.
To delete alignment references:
- Select the frame elements you want to reset.
- Go to the “Modify | Structural Framework” tab and select the “Modify Endpoint” panel (Change Reference).
- Choose either side bounding box of the column to remove the alignment.
