How to Shorten Steel Frame Components for Prefabricated Steel in Revit

How to Shorten Steel Frame Elements for Prefabricated Steel in Revit

In Revit, you can shorten the front, end, top, or bottom of steel beams, supports, or columns to fit the geometric requirements of prefabricated steel components. Follow these steps to shorten steel frame elements:

Navigate to the Steel tab, then select the Modify panel, and click on Shorten.

Click on the steel frame element you want to modify. The cut will be placed at the endpoint closest to where you clicked on the element.

Note: The cut is created on the nearest edge of the selected structural element, and its position cannot be adjusted once created.

To adjust the cut, select Cut and then access its properties under Attributes in the properties palette:

  • Increasing the length value will shorten the element further.
  • Entering a negative length value will extend the graphic element.

To create a chamfer, specify angle values along the beam’s height and width.

Keep in mind that the shortening cut affects only the graphical representation in the view. Ensure the Detail Level is set to Fine to make the cut visible.
