How to Quickly Draw Squares in Revit

Quickly Drawing Squares in Revit

In Revit, there are many simple commands that can significantly boost your drawing efficiency, such as creating square outlines. Typically, users rely on drawing reference planes or use temporary dimension annotations to adjust shapes after drawing. However, here is a faster method to draw perfect squares.

For instance, if you want to draw a square with a side length of 400mm and demonstrate it using the stretch command, follow these steps. First, activate the stretch command, then select the rectangle tool in the drawing options. Next, set the offset value in the options bar to 200mm — which is half the side length — as shown in the image below.

After snapping to the intersection point of the reference planes, double-click as illustrated in the figure below. This will create a square with sides measuring 400mm.

Note: While working in Revit, you often discover handy tips that help you complete modeling tasks quickly, such as this method for drawing squares. Of course, mastering these shortcuts requires a solid understanding of the software.
