Detailed Explanation of Tools for Creating Custom Railing Styles in Revit
For each railing type, you can define the railing style, specify the railing family, set attachments for the top and bottom, adjust spacing, choose truncation styles, and configure other properties. To begin, select a railing in the plan view.
In the Attributes palette, click Edit Type.
Note: Any changes made to the type properties will affect all railings of the same type within the project. To create a new railing type, click Copy.
In the Type Properties dialog box, click Railing Position and then select Edit.
Enter the name for the first part of your custom railing style.
For railing families, perform the following steps:
- Set the benchmarks as required.
- Enter a value for the Bottom Offset.
- Select the Top parameter (refer to the previous table for details).
- Enter a value for the Top Offset.
- Specify a value for From Previous.
- Enter the desired value for Offset.
To configure truncation styles, follow these steps:
- Specify the alignment.
- Refer to the Edit Railing Position dialog box for alignment instructions within the main style.
- If Align is set to Starting Point, End Point, or Center, select Fill Beyond Length.
- Consult the Edit Railing Position dialog box for guidance on the Fill Beyond Length option in the main style.
Click Apply to preview the changes in your model.
When satisfied, click OK to confirm the updates.
