Elastic Architecture Firm is currently undertaking a secondary renovation of the Mitsis Rinela Beach Resort located in Kokkini Hani, Crete. This project primarily targets the housing area in front of the hotel, with a special focus on the beach, main outdoor spaces, and the coffee shop area.
The firm’s goal is to craft a beautiful and inviting space for guests. The building’s design embraces simplicity while highlighting Greek architectural elements that define the functional areas. Key features include the interplay of light and shadow, panoramic views, and the use of natural local materials. The shadows cast by the willow pergola emphasize the building’s texture, creating a dynamic and ever-changing atmosphere. The result is a modern resort that harmoniously blends practical needs with the natural environment.
The beach area is thoughtfully divided into five sections, featuring outdoor sofa beds, lounge chairs, seating zones, and pergolas. The predominant use of natural materials establishes a seamless dialogue between the architecture and the surrounding landscape.
The coffee shop adjacent to the restaurant area was renovated in the initial phase of the project. It serves as a crucial architectural feature, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity with the restaurant.
The central bar area is symmetrically divided into two leisure zones. It features industrial concrete flooring that extends over a large area, enhanced by warm earthy tones.
The combination of wood, unobstructed views, and the delicate play of light and shadow from the willow branches creates a warm and harmonious atmosphere throughout the building.
The main entrance of the central building is marked by a wooden pavilion.
A fountain is positioned between the central building and the main swimming pool, creating a focal point. The marble used in the pool extends throughout all surrounding areas of the central building, establishing a cohesive and natural continuation of the design. Notable features of the resort include the elevated entrance, central fountain, and outdoor fireplace.
