Reasons and Solutions for Slight Deviation of Revit Elements from the Axis
Problem: This warning appears when a line-based element is not aligned with a line that is perfectly horizontal, vertical, or at a 45-degree angle to these directions. The deviation ranges from approximately 1x (10-9) to 0.2 degrees. The warning indicates that the graphic element slightly deviates from the axis, which may cause inaccuracies.
Causes: This issue commonly occurs due to drawing or rotating elements with angle snapping turned off, or when handling existing elements during the following operations:
- Creating elements by selecting faces or lines that are slightly off-axis.
- Aligning elements using a reference that itself has a slight deviation from the axis.
- Decomposing AutoCAD imports containing lines that are not perfectly aligned.
- Creating floor area boundaries on volumes with geometry slightly off-axis.
- Snapping the endpoint of a line to a reference that is slightly off-axis, such as an imported drawing or two columns that are not fully aligned.
- Snapping endpoints of lines to references that are correctly positioned in context but whose lines are slightly off-axis, for example, two different ceiling grids.
Why This Matters: The off-axis issue needs to be addressed because Revit cannot create dimensions between lines that are not perfectly parallel. Additionally, it cannot connect or cut geometric shapes properly when faces are slightly non-parallel or have small gaps caused by off-axis elements.
Solutions: Depending on the root cause, consider the following fixes:
- Drag the endpoint of the off-axis element slightly until it snaps onto the correct axis.
- Repeat the rotation process with angle snapping enabled.
- If the problem is due to pre-existing elements, correct those elements first, then repeat the operation.
- If the issue originates from imported data, correct the source file in its original software and re-import it.
