Setting Cut-off Style Positions for Revit Railings and Handrails
When modeling railings in Revit, the process can be quite complex. Here, we will explain the key concepts involved with railings in detail.
1. Main Railing Style: As illustrated below, adding n railings at n intervals forms a single main style.
2. Cut-off Style Position: When drawing a railing path, it is divided into multiple segments. The endpoint of each segment marks the cut-off position.
3. Selecting “Cut-off Style Position” generates a truncation style at the end of the segment. By default, this uses the last post style in the railing style. The length of this style equals the sum of the spacing between railings within one style. For example, if the spacing is 1000 + 1000 + 1000, the total length is 3000, as shown below.
4. A necessary condition for generating cut-off styles is that the next section of railing must be long enough to generate more than one style. Only then will a cut-off style be created at the end of the segment.
5. Cut-off Style Position and Angle Threshold:
For example, if the angle between segments is greater than 45 degrees, the segments are considered truncated. The length of the truncated segment determines whether more than one style can be generated.
If the angle is less than 45 degrees, the combined length of two line segments (which are then considered non-truncated) determines if more than one style can be created.
Again, the condition to generate truncated styles is that the next section of railing must be able to generate more than one style before a cut-off can occur at the end.
There are two main criteria for truncating styles:
- The truncated railing length is sufficient to produce one or more styles, and the following railing section (truncated or not) also has enough length to create one or more styles.
- The combined length of two non-truncated railings is sufficient to generate multiple styles, and the next railing section (truncated or non-truncated) is long enough to generate more than one style.
