How to Properly Use the Structural Purpose of Walls in Revit
In Revit, each wall type within a family has a property called Structural Purpose. This instance property indicates whether the wall is non-load bearing or one of three types of structural walls: load-bearing wall, shear wall, or composite structural wall.
When you use the Wall tool, Revit assumes you are placing a partition wall. Regardless of the wall type you select, the default value for Structural Purpose is set to Non-load bearing. To modify this setting, first select the wall, then go to the Structure parameters, where you can change the value of Structural Purpose.
If you use the Structural Wall tool and select the same wall type, the default Structural Purpose will be set to Load-bearing.
