How to Edit Videos with Sony Vegas
After recording a video, you may need to make various minor edits before it’s ready for use. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to edit videos using Sony Vegas.
1. First, open Vegas Pro 16 and drag your video file directly into the timeline. This action will create both a video track and an audio track. If you drag in an image, only a video track will appear, and if you import audio, only an audio track will be created.
2. Sometimes, the video footage might be too long or contain unwanted sections. You can trim the video using the video trimmer (Area 1) or directly on the timeline (Area 2). We recommend trimming directly on the timeline for convenience, using the shortcut key ‘S’ to split clips.
By default, the video and audio are grouped and locked together, so they edit simultaneously. To edit them separately, enable the “Ignore event grouping” option or right-click the clip and select “Remove from group.”
Once you’ve selected the unwanted segment, press Delete to remove it.
3. Next, position your clips so that two video materials overlap by about 15 frames. This overlap helps create smoother transitions between clips. Use the same method to edit and position image materials appropriately. Adjust the audio track to match the video length, and apply a fade-out effect at the end of the audio to ensure a smooth sound finish.
At this point, your edited project file is complete.
4. To render your video, move the yellow slider to set the loop region, making sure it covers the entire project timeline.
Once the loop area is set, go to the “File” tab and select “Render As.” In the dialog box, choose your desired rendering template and specify the output location.
After configuring the settings, click “Render” and wait for the process to complete.
