How to Redefine the Vertical Length of a Space Using Drag-and-Drop Controls in Revit
Note: This guide assumes you have selected Calculation of Area and Volume under the Design tab, specifically within the Room and Area panel’s dropdown list (default setting). Begin by creating or opening a section view that displays the space you wish to modify.
If you need to create a section, ensure that the section line intersects the space on the floor plan. This allows you to view the space clearly in the section view.
Make sure the space is visible within the section view.
Hover over the space until it highlights, then click to select it.
The shaded area representing the spatial volume will be highlighted in red.
At this point, you will see two drag controls—one at the top and one at the bottom—along with their corresponding dimension indicators. These drag controls represent the vertical length of the selected space. The top drag control and its dimension show the height offset, while the bottom drag control and dimension indicate the bottom offset.
Use these drag controls to adjust and redefine the vertical length of the space.
As you adjust the vertical length, notice that the drag controls move accordingly and the shading updates to reflect the new vertical dimensions.
If the vertical length extends beyond a room boundary element (such as a floor or ceiling), the space will snap to that boundary. However, the drag controls and associated dimensions will still display the specified vertical length, as illustrated in the image below.
Additional drag controls can be used if needed to further refine the space.
When finished, click Modify to apply your changes.
The vertical length of the space is now redefined, and the space volume accurately reflects your specifications.
