Creating Split Contour Families in Revit: A Step-by-Step Guide

How to Create Split Contour Families in Revit

To create a segmentation contour family that can be applied to part boundaries when dividing parts or editing existing part divisions, follow these steps.

First, click the File tab to start creating a new family.

In the New Family – Select Template File dialog box, navigate up two levels until you reach the Data folder.

Next, double-click the Imperial System folder, then double-click Family Model. Select the Division Profile.rft template and click Open.

The plan view will open, displaying two reference planes. Note that no other views are available for drawing geometric shapes.

Go to the Create tab, then in the Detailed Drawing panel, click Line to draw the desired contour.

To specify the detail level of the contour family when it is displayed in the project, select any line within the contour sketch. Then, go to the Modify Line tab, find the Visibility panel, and click Visibility Settings.

Choose the preferred level of detail—Fine, Medium, or Coarse—and then click OK to confirm.

On the Properties palette, ensure that the Outline Usage parameter is set to <general>.

Finally, save the family.
