How to Exclude Parts from Auto Fill Tools in Revit
In the MEP Prefabricated Components palette, you can select components that you do not want to be included when using the auto fill tool. Once a part or a group of parts is marked as excluded from the auto fill tool, these components will not be automatically filled by the following tools:
- Design to Prefabrication
- Quick Connect
- Wiring Filling
- Multi Point Wiring
- Trim/Extend
- Insert Component
- Standard Parts Placement (for example, when connecting a flange valve to a welded pipeline)
Parts excluded from the auto fill tool will display an icon next to them in the MEP Prefabricated Components palette. This indicates that these parts or groups will not be processed by the auto fill tool. However, you can still manually insert these excluded parts into your model, as long as they are available.
How to Exclude Parts or Entire Groups from the Auto Fill Tool:
First, open the MEP Prefabricated Components Options Board. By default, this palette appears when creating a new model in Revit. If it’s not visible, navigate to the System tab, then the Prefabricated panel (prefabricated component). Alternatively, go to the View tab, then the Window panel, open the User Interface dropdown, and select MEP Prefabricated Components.
At the bottom of the Options Board, click the Auto Fill Exclusion Mode button. This enables exclusion mode, adding a small checkbox next to each part in the palette. In addition, a checkbox will appear beside each group listed in the Service Group dropdown.
Within the palette, you can do the following (note that exclusions only apply to the current session and user, and will not be saved after closing Revit):
- Exclude Individual Parts: Click the checkbox next to a specific part to exclude it from auto fill. Once excluded, an icon will appear next to the part. For example, parts such as Unequal Radius Bending and Wedge Eccentricity have been excluded in the image above.
- Exclude Entire Groups: Click the checkbox next to a group name in the Service Group dropdown to exclude all parts within that group. An icon will indicate the exclusion. For example, the groups Embedded Devices, End of Line Equipment, and Bracket have been excluded as shown above.
To remove any exclusions added during the current session, click Reset. This will clear all exclusion selections made by the current user in this session and restore the palette to its default state.
Note: The Reset function only removes exclusions added during the current session by the current user. Any exclusions set by default in Autodesk Fabrication products will remain and are marked with icons.
