Understanding REVIT as a Material for Modeling Behavior

BIM Software Tip: Using the Material Used for Model Behavior in Revit

Here’s a simple example illustrating how materials affect model behavior in Revit:

Issue: A custom variable cross-section beam family does not display as a dashed line beneath the floor slab, as expected.

Solution: To fix this, follow these steps:

  1. Edit the variable cross-section beam family.
  2. In the Family Category and Parameters dialog, locate the Material Used for Model Behavior option and set it to Concrete.
  3. In the family properties bar, find the option labeled Show in Hidden View and select Edges Hidden by Other Components.
  4. Save and reload the family into your project. You will now see the beam edges beneath the floor slab displayed as dashed lines.
