Effective Techniques for Tiling Walls in Revit

BIM Software Tip: REVIT Wall Tile Method

Let’s start by introducing the method for creating wall tiles. Within the Wall panel under the Building tab, you’ll find options like stacked walls, basic walls, and curtain walls. Our wall tiles are best created using curtain walls. Why? Curtain walls offer several advantages: they can be adjusted horizontally, the vertical grid spacing is customizable, the curtain wall’s contour is editable, and any grid line can be modified. Additionally, the brick joint effect can be simulated using the vertical support. These features make curtain walls ideal for producing wall tiles.

Besides simulating the wall tile effect, curtain walls also allow for accurate material quantity calculations. This is quite efficient. (Note: For statistics, go to the View tab, then the Detail Table panel, select Detail Table/Quantity, and choose the category “Curtain Wall Panel.” After adding the required fields, the material list will be generated.) Below is a screenshot illustrating this process.

Please note that the initial result is not the desired appearance. We need to adjust the panel type and refine the brick joint effect. First, let’s replace the panel.

Click on the curtain wall, then in the Type Properties, replace the curtain wall panels with the 600×600 marble panel we just created.

After replacing the panel, the effect appears as shown below.

However, the brick joints are still not as expected. Further adjustments are necessary. Follow these steps: In the Project Browser, under “Clan,” find the curtain wall vertical brace in the dropdown menu. Locate the rectangular vertical brace that is 30mm square. Double-click to open the Type Properties editor and proceed with the following modifications:

The seam can be freely adjusted. To do this, hover over the dividing joint, press the Tab key until a blue dashed line appears, click on the soil nail, modify the value, and the brick joint will adjust accordingly.

Under the Extensions section, note that statistics can be calculated using curtain wall panels. You can also use a vertical contour family to create notes for the seams.
