How to Add Contours to Conceptual Mass Stretching in Revit

BIM Software Tip: How to Add Contours to Conceptual Mass Stretching in Revit

By default, Revit creates a cross-sectional profile at each end of the conceptual mass. However, you can achieve more complex and varied shapes by adding additional contours. Here’s how to add these contours:

1. Select the conceptual mass you want to modify.

2. In the Modify Mass Context ribbon tab, click Enable In-Place Editing.

3. To reselect and edit the volume in place, place your cursor near the mass until any part of it is highlighted. Press the Tab key to cycle through highlighted elements until the entire mass object is selected. When the entire mass is highlighted, click to confirm your selection.

4. Once in editing mode, additional editing tools will appear on the contextual ribbon.

5. Choose the option to add contours from the shape graph controls.

6. Move your mouse cursor close to the extruded edge at the desired position on the contour to place the new contour.

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to add more contours as needed.

8. Finally, click once to complete the volume and finish the operation.
