BIM Software Tip: How to Use DWG Files Efficiently in REVIT
When working with REVIT, DWG files are often used to varying extents. However, using them without following certain guidelines can negatively affect REVIT’s performance and efficiency. Here are some tips to minimize these impacts.
1. Minimize the number of DWG files linked or imported into REVIT whenever possible. Reducing their usage helps lower the resource consumption caused by REVIT processing non-native objects.
2. Avoid importing unnecessary DWG data. For example, clean up unwanted graphics and remove unnecessary layers before importing to reduce the overall file size and complexity.
3. Avoid exploding DWG files in REVIT, as this significantly increases the number of graphic elements and can slow down the project.
4. If the DWG files are only needed temporarily, make sure to unlink or delete them promptly after use to free up resources.
5. When importing or linking DWG files, try to select “Only the current view.” If this option is not available, remember to turn off exporting DWG in both vertical and 3D views to control visibility and maintain performance.
