BIM Software Tip: How to Boost Efficiency in Revit’s Worksharing Mode
Most of us use worksharing mode for collaborative design projects. But how can we enhance efficiency when working this way?
1. Always have instant messaging software ready, such as QQ, Skype, or similar platforms, to facilitate quick communication.
2. When there are no local or major changes, reload the latest worksets to speed up your process before synchronizing with the central model.
3. For significant modifications—like adjusting elevations—make these changes only when no one else is working on the project. Ideally, work directly on the central file (once everyone has synchronized), then have all team members re-sign their local copies.
4. If some team members’ local copies are significantly out of date compared to the central file (for example, after being away on a business trip), avoid reloading the latest worksets on the local copy. Instead, creating a new local file from the central model is often faster and more reliable.
5. Ensure all team members have computers with comparable performance. A single low-spec machine can negatively impact overall project efficiency.
6. Since only one user can synchronize with the central file at a time, try to stagger synchronization times. Use the Worksharing Monitor to check who is currently syncing and select your synchronization time accordingly.
7. Before synchronizing or saving, open a simple 2D view. This practice speeds up the process and enhances Revit’s performance.
8. Regularly use the verification tool to audit and clean central files. This helps optimize file size and significantly improves project stability.
