BIM Software Tip: Should You Rotate the Crop Box or Rotate Project North in Revit?
When you encounter a plan view that is not aligned perpendicular to true north, it can be challenging to view and work with the model effectively. To address this, a common approach is used:
By drawing auxiliary lines and rotating the crop box, the view can be aligned properly. (The detailed steps won’t be repeated here, as they have been shared extensively by others.) However, this method has two significant drawbacks beyond its complexity:
First, if you switch between True North and Project North options, the system often defaults back to the previous setting, causing confusion and potential errors.
Because of these issues, the recommended and more efficient approach is to rotate Project North instead. This method is generally faster and more reliable for aligning your views.
