BIM Software Tip: How to Align Walls with Varying Widths in Revit
When walls have different widths, their vertical alignment may not match. Before exporting these walls to analysis and design software, it’s important to ensure their analytical models are properly aligned for consistency.
In the plan view, you might notice two walls with different widths whose centers do not line up vertically. For example, you can align the analytical model of the shorter (upper) wall with that of the longer (lower) wall. To do this, adjust one wall’s analytical model to match the other by following these steps:
1. In the Project Browser, set View 1 – Analytical as the current view. This will display the vertical lines representing the analysis models of each wall.
2. Go to the Analysis tab, then find the Analysis Model Tool panel, and select Analyze and Adjust. The status bar will indicate: “To adjust the operation of picking up the source analysis model.”
3. Click on a vertical line in the analytical model of the shorter wall. The status bar will then prompt: “To adjust the target analysis model for picking up operations.”
4. Next, select the vertical line in the analytical model of the longer wall that is closest to the line you chose in step 3.
5. Repeat the process by selecting another vertical line in the shorter wall’s analytical model, then select the corresponding vertical line in the longer wall’s analytical model opposite to the previous one. This will vertically align the two wall models.
If you need to reset the analytical model for the shorter wall, go to the Analysis tab, open the Analysis Model Tool panel, and choose Analysis Reset. Then, select the shorter wall’s analytical model in the drawing area to restore it.
