BIM Software Tip: How to Handle Beams That Are Not Perpendicular in Revit
1. Connecting intersecting beams is straightforward when they meet at right angles. However, challenges arise when two beams intersect at non-perpendicular angles. Take the example shown in the image below:
The diagram illustrates two intersecting beams: C5B35 (200×400) and 5B65 (300×400). To properly join these beams, adjustments must be made to one end of beam C5B35 according to the design specifications.
2. Begin by drawing the positions of both beams based on the CAD drawings. Then, extend the right end of beam C5B35 slightly, as demonstrated in the figure below:
3. Next, navigate to the “Entrance” panel and locate the “Face Opening” tool, as shown in the image below:
4. Click on “Face Opening”, then hover the cursor over the edge of beam C5B35 until a green box appears around it, indicating selection readiness. See the figure below for reference:
5. Click on beam C5B35 to automatically open the “Modify/Create Opening Boundary” interface. Finally, draw a boundary around the portion of the beams that extend beyond the original drawing to complete the selection and modification.
