How to Delete Unused Families and Family Types with New Features in Revit 2019
There are two main methods to remove unused families or family types from a project or template in Revit 2019:
- Select and delete these families and types directly in the Project Browser (see detailed steps below).
- Use the Clear Unused Items tool.
If you only need to delete a small number of families or types, manually selecting and deleting them is the easiest way. However, if you want to clear multiple unused items across the project, the Clear Unused Items tool is more efficient. Removing unused families and types usually reduces the size of your project files.
Note that certain items cannot be deleted by either method, including:
- Related family types, such as those that serve as the main body of other families.
- Families or types currently in use within the project or template.
- System families.
How to Select and Delete Families and Types in the Project Browser
1. In the Project Browser, expand the category that contains the family or type you want to delete.
2. If you want to delete a loadable family type, expand the family to see its types.
3. Select the family or type you want to remove.
Tip: To select multiple families or types at once, hold down the CTRL key while clicking.
4. Perform any of the following actions to delete the selected items:
- Press the Delete key.
- Right-click and choose Remove from Project.
The selected family or type will be removed from your project or template.
If the family or type you are deleting has instances placed in the project, a warning message will appear to inform you before deletion.
