How to Change Hidden Elements to Display in Revit
This question often comes up in the community. Although the solution is simple, I’ve written this brief guide to explain the process clearly.
First, it’s important to understand how graphic elements are hidden in Revit. There are two main ways to hide elements:
- Temporary Hide
- Hide
1. Temporary Hide
How to temporarily hide elements:
- Use the shortcut key HH.
- Or click the Temporary Hide/Isolate button (the small glasses icon) on the View Control Bar.
When elements are temporarily hidden, you will see a blue box and a message in the drawing area indicating this.
How to restore temporarily hidden elements:
- Close and then reopen the project.
- Or click the small glasses icon on the View Control Bar and select Reset Temporary Hide/Isolate.
2. Hide Elements
This method permanently hides elements until you manually reveal them again:
- Select the elements you want to hide or isolate, then use the Hide/Isolate command on the Modify tab (shortcut key: EH).
- Alternatively, right-click the selected elements and choose the hide option from the context menu.
How to Unhide Elements and Restore Their Display
- Click the small light bulb icon on the View Control Bar (Show Hidden Elements). Once clicked, a red box will appear in the drawing area, highlighting the hidden elements in red.
- Select the hidden elements, then click the Unhide command on the Modify tab to change their hidden status.
- Use the toggle button to switch between displaying and hiding graphic elements as needed.
Following these steps will allow you to easily manage hidden elements in Revit.
