View Range in Revit Visibility Tutorial
The view range for each floor plan can be customized individually.
Note that only floor plans offer options to adjust the view range.
Each view’s view range is set independently.
View Range Dialog Box
Access the view range settings through the properties panel.
View Range Setting Rules
The Top value must be greater than or equal to the sectional plane’s numerical value.
The View Depth value must be less than or equal to the Bottom numerical value.
Visibility within a Specific Range
1. The actual effect depends on the project’s regulations.
For example, under building regulations, only cabinets and standard models are visible in the area between the top and sectional plane. The structural and architectural elements in this zone remain consistent.
2. Mechanical and electrical bathroom fixtures have consistent graphical elements that can be displayed, while cabinets and standard models appear in half-tone.
3. Coordinate the visibility of mechanical, electrical, and bathroom elements, along with cabinets and standard models in this region, without displaying building walls, columns, or structural walls.
Specifically:
1. The range from the Sectional Plane to Bottom is within the normal limits.
2. The range from Bottom to View Depth may extend beyond the scope, but elements will still be visible as long as part of them falls within this range.
For instance, through Visibility/Graphics Overrides → Model Categories → Lines → Exceeding, you can set the style of walls that extend beyond the view range to appear as green dashed lines.
3. Objects cut at the Sectional Plane will display their internal structure.
For example, walls appear with section cut styles in plan views.
Elements between the Sectional Plane and View Depth are always visible.
Elements between the Sectional Plane and Top are not necessarily visible.
Setting specific numerical values for the view range clearly defines visibility: elements between the sectional plane and bottom are visible, while those outside this range are not.
Since these rules can be confusing, it is recommended to set the Top and Sectional Plane to the same height.
At the same time, you can set the Bottom and View Depth values to define the difference in lines. However, setting the same values for these is also acceptable.
Using the View Range
Avoid frequently modifying the view range on the same floor plan.
If changes are necessary, consider copying the current view and applying a new view range to the copied view instead.
