How to Set Global Parameters in Revit
Parameters play a crucial role in any Revit model. To enhance their usability, Revit introduced a feature called Global Parameters starting from the 2017 version. Global parameters allow you to control various parameter types and manage changes across different element types efficiently. In this guide, we will explain how to use global parameters, with length as an example.
1. Go to the Manage tab and click on the Global Parameters command, as illustrated below.
2. Once the Global Parameters panel opens, you can create, edit, and adjust global parameters. Here, create a new global parameter named Size, as shown in the image.
3. Next, create the graphic elements in the drawing area and add the necessary dimensions.
4. Select the dimension annotation, then under the Tags panel, choose Label Dimension Annotation and select the parameter Size. You will notice the graphic elements updating accordingly, as shown below.
5. Click the floating edit button next to the dimension line to open the Global Parameters dialog box. Here, you can modify the values of your global parameters, as demonstrated in the figure.
6. After making your changes, click Confirm. The graphic elements will update to reflect these modifications, as shown.
Summary: By following this process, you can effectively use global parameters in your modeling workflow. Creating and controlling global parameters during modeling allows for faster and more precise adjustments to your graphics, significantly improving efficiency.
