Building Lifecycle Management (BLM) refers to the comprehensive process involved in a construction project, spanning from initial planning and design to construction, operation and maintenance, and ultimately demolition. Construction projects are characterized by high technical complexity, extended timelines, significant risks, and the involvement of multiple stakeholders. Therefore, dividing the entire building lifecycle into distinct phases is crucial. Typically, the building lifecycle is categorized into four main stages: planning, design, construction, and operation.
The planning and design stages focus on the detailed planning and overall architectural design of the project, ensuring that the building’s function and style align with its intended purpose. The construction stage is a specialized phase where construction and installation companies manage and estimate project costs. This stage encompasses activities such as renovation, new construction, and expansion, all executed according to the specifications outlined in the project design documents. The operation stage involves processes such as building operation, maintenance, repair, improvement, renewal, as well as property management.
