When Should You Use Built-In Elements in Revit?
Generally, it is best to minimize the use of built-in graphic elements because they can consume a large amount of data and may cause the model to lag. So, when exactly should you use the Built-in Elements command?
First, identify any unique or single-purpose elements required for your project. If an element needs to be reused across multiple projects, it’s recommended to create it as a loadable family instead.
In cases where your project requires built-in elements that already exist in other projects—or elements similar to those used previously—you have two options: you can either copy these built-in elements directly into your project or load them as a group.
If you cannot find built-in elements that suit your needs, you should create new built-in elements within the project. When creating built-in graphic elements, Revit suggests creating a family for each built-in element that contains only a single family type.
