What to Do If Revit Crashes
Recently, some users of Revit 2018 single-user fixed-term licenses have reported frequent software crashes or error report prompts. These crashes often occur about 24 hours after the last successful license authorization check, especially when the internet connection is unstable, unavailable, or when the license authorization server cannot be reached.
It’s important to note that license authorization checks run in the background and are unrelated to any ongoing user activities at the time of the crash. When this issue occurs, the product may display a fatal error message.
For example:
Revit Error Aborted
Fatal error: An unhandled exception e06d7363h occurred in ee563c58h
Or
Fatal error: An unhandled exception e06d7363h occurred in 8d6b3fb8h
After the error, a dialog box may appear asking you to submit an error report. This is a known issue affecting the single-user fixed license for all 2018 products, and Autodesk has released corresponding hotfixes to address it.
Users are advised to download and install the appropriate hotfix for their system—either 32-bit or 64-bit—and to close all software before proceeding with the installation.
You can download and install the hotfix here:
- For 64-bit systems: Autodesk License Service (x64) – 5.1.5 Hotfix 1 (560KB)
- For 32-bit systems: Autodesk License Service (x86) – 5.1.5 Hotfix 1 (1820KB)
Updates and patches can also be accessed through your Autodesk Account, the Autodesk Desktop Application installed on your system, or by following the instructions provided above. Additionally, it is recommended to install the latest update for Revit 2018, version 2018.2.
You can download this update directly from accounts.autodesk.com or install it via the Autodesk Desktop Application, which is available in the system’s program groups under Autodesk — Autodesk Desktop App or Autodesk Desktop Application.
Finally, it’s advisable to verify your internet connection and repair any issues to ensure stable license authorization checks in the future.
