A Step-by-Step Guide to Drawing Axillary Beam Families in Revit

How to Draw Axillary Beam Families in Revit

1. To begin, let’s explain the process of creating a haunched beam family. This involves drawing two stretched triangles onto the original rectangular beam, locking them in place, and then adding the necessary parameters.

2. Start by creating a new beam family.

3. Next, delete the default rectangular beams included in the family file. Then, use the layout tool to redraw a rectangular beam family. In the layout view, lock the endpoints on both sides to the reference planes labeled Left Component and Right Component. After that, draw the beam outline and set its height and width. Click to complete the shape.

4. Switch to the front elevation view and draw a triangle by stretching. Lock the two straight lines to the reference plane and the bottom of the beam. Then, add three reference planes in the order shown in the image below. Align and lock the endpoints of the triangle to these reference planes. Set the corresponding parameters and click Finish.

5. Return to the plan view. Align and lock the two sides of the left haunched section to both sides of the beam.

6. Repeat the same process to draw the haunch on the right side.

7. Finally, connect the haunched sections to the main beam to complete the haunched beam family.
