How to Link CAD Files in Revit Elevation Views
Depending on the project requirements, you may need to link CAD drawings within elevation views. However, if certain settings are overlooked, the CAD files may not appear correctly in Revit’s elevation views. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to properly link CAD files in an elevation view.
1. In the Project Browser, switch to the elevation view where you want to insert the CAD drawing—for example, the East Elevation view.
2. Go to the Insert tab and click on the Link CAD command.
3. In the Link CAD Formats dialog box that appears, select the CAD file you want to link. Then, under the Positioning options, choose Automatic – Origin to Origin. This setting aligns the CAD drawing’s origin point with the project base point in Revit.
Set the Import Units to Millimeters, since Revit defaults to millimeters. When the CAD drawing scale is 1:100, setting the units this way ensures the linked CAD file displays correctly. Leave all other options as default, then click Open to complete the linking process.
