Using the Shift Key to Connect Pipelines in Revit
Connecting the socket between a riser and a horizontal pipe in the 3D view can be challenging. When the pipe diameters are the same, shortcut keys like tr or tt make the process easier. However, connecting pipes of different diameters is less straightforward. Below is a simple method to accomplish this.
1. As illustrated, when two air ducts—a horizontal and a vertical one—are the same size, first use the shortcut key al to align them. Select one duct first, then select the other to align it.
2. Use the shortcut key tr to connect the horizontal pipe to the vertical pipe, as shown in the figure.
When the diameters of the riser and horizontal pipe differ, you can align their centers, but capturing the centerline is more difficult.
3. Select the riser and click the + icon. While dragging, hold down the Shift key, as demonstrated in the following figure.
4. Holding down the Tab key will highlight the entire connection, making it easier and faster to connect pipes of different diameters in the 3D view.
