How to Design a Glass Curtain Wall with Integrated Volume in Revit

How to Create a Glass Curtain Wall with Built-In Volume in Revit

In this tutorial, Table Lord will guide you through the process of designing irregular curtain wall roofs and general glass curtain wall surfaces using the built-in volume technique in Revit.

Start by creating a simple wall, as shown in the image below:

Next, we will add a curved glass roof with an irregular shape. Switch to the Level 2 plan view, then select Volume and Site from the options panel and choose Internal Building Volume. Begin by setting the work plane, and use spline curves to draw three layout reference lines.

After that, select the three layout reference lines and create a solid form. You can also adjust the relative positions of reference points X, Y, and Z in the 3D view using positioning annotations.

Once done, click to complete the creation. Then, select the building in the palette and choose Face Roof to enter the face roof placement mode. Here, you will notice the slanted glass window.

Select the previously created slanted glass window and enter the type editing mode. Adjust the layout of the grid and grid mullions as illustrated in the image below:

Click OK, and you will obtain an irregular curtain wall panel roof, as shown in the next picture.

At this stage, you may notice that the side walls are not fully connected to the top wall. To fix this, select all wall types and use the Attach Top option from the tab. The result will look like the image below:

After constructing the top glass curtain wall, the sidewall glass curtain walls also need to be created. To replace a solid wall with a glass curtain wall:

Select the wall you want to replace, click the dropdown in the properties bar, and choose the curtain wall option. The system will automatically replace the solid wall with a glass curtain wall. If adjustments are needed, you can modify the curtain wall settings. This modification process is similar to creating the roof curtain wall and will not be repeated here.
